Taking a sabbatical from work is not easy and must come about after plenty of serious introspection. Share your thoughts, feelings, fears, insecurities and doubts with your partner. Sort out finances in terms of a loan, dipping into the savings and child-care if you have children. Finally, figure out potential frustrations that you may run into particularly if you’ve been working on a full-time job over a long period of time. Also, remember that when you want to return work, you may find it difficult to get a suitable break… once you’ve worked out everything and decided that you need the break definitely, be very clear on what you will do in your time-off. Only then should you put in your papers.
