• Check the external door and windows frames in a brick wall. Shrinkages in wood tend to leave hairline gaps that sometimes allow the water to seep in during heavy downpours. Get tube silicon and a “gun” from any hardware shop. Squeeze this chemical between the cracks to make them disappear.
• Exposed brick or stone-clad exteriors tend to absorb moisture since brick and stone are porous. Buy good water-based silicon, mix it with water, and get it painted on the walls. It will preserve your exteriors for years. Do give the surface a wash with water, using a hose pipe to remove dust and dirt.
• Inside the house, leakages in bathrooms should be addressed promptly. Apply an epoxy-based mortar on all floor tile joints and at water-outlet points.
• Reduce overall humidity levels inside your house. Keep rooms well-ventilated, and open doors and windows whenever possible. Air-conditioners and dehumidifiers help reduce moisture in the air.
