Can endometriosis lead to infertility?

Around 40 to 50 percent of infertile women may have endometriosis. Women who experience deep pain during intercourse may avoid it, reducing the likelihood of pregnancy. Scar tissue from endometriosis can restrict the area in the ovary for egg release, or may even block the fallopian tube.

Infertility treatments can increase the chances of pregnancy in women with endometriosis, to boost the ovaries production of eggs. Sperm too, can be inserted directly into the uterus. If you don’t become pregnant within two years, you may explore assisted conception: In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) and Gamete Intrafallopian Transfer (GIFT).
